Opel is introducing its third body type to the 2009 Insigna line-up, a wagon. Known as the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer, this wagon is an important car for Opel considering the popularity of wagons in Europe. While this will be considered a lager family car in Europe, it would be consider a mid-sized wagon in the U.S. There is no confirmation yet that this model will also make the trip to these shores when its sedan sibling replaces the Saturn Aura possibly in 2010.
There are nine total engines expected for the Insigna family. Choices include five gasoline — naturally aspired and turbo charged four cylinders as well as naturally aspired V6s. Also expected are four turbo-diesels. Power over the entire range should be from 110 to 260 hp. The wagon will also get the same optional all-wheel drive system as the rest of the Insignia line.
The Sports Tourer is expected to make its official debut at the Paris Auto Show in October, and it should be in European showrooms along the sedan and hatchback variations by early 2009.
Here are a few spy shots of the 2009 BMW Z4. Although the camouflage is being used to make the car look as much like the previous generation as possible, it seems that at least the hood line is raised (possibly to meet with European pedestrian crash standards?)
We should not be too far away from some official teasers from BMW. Production of the current generation is ending this month at the Spartanburg, S.C. factory, and it is likely that the new Z4 will only be built in Germany. The new car should be first officially shown to the public in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Audi RS6 Avant is becoming a popular customizing car. After ABT, MTM and B&B versions, Kicherer of Germany unveiled today its customization options for the Audi RS6 Avant. Dubbed Audi R-S-Street, the vehicle comes with a power increase from 580 hp to 700 hp. The extra horses make the 0-60 mph sprint is achieved in 4.3 seconds, the 0-124 mph is made in 13 seconds while the top speed is electronically limited to 173 mph.
In order to deliver better stability the car not only received a new suspension system that lowers the car by 25 millimeters, but also gets a new rear air diffuser. A new exhaust system is used for a better sound of the engine. The body kit of the vehicle includes carbon fiber mirror covers and front lip spoiler. What is really special at this car is the custom body paint and the custom 22 inch wheels which complement the kit.

If an Ariel Atom and a golf cart had a one-night stand, this is what the might have resulted. It’s the Jetstream SC250, and if you’re in the United Kingdom, you can buy one today.
Aside from the looks, this car seems like it could be a contender. The engine is directly lifted from a Vauxhall Astra VXR making 250 horsepower in a body that weighs a little over 1500 lbs. The result is a better power/weight ratio than a Porsche 911 Turbo or a Ferrari 599 GTB. But the SC250’s numbers will still fall short of the Atom (similar base horsepower, but almost 500 lbs lighter.)
From this promotional video, the car looks like it may have a little more person-friendly cabin than the always-compared Atom, but the SC250 is missing the Atom’s aggressive look. For instance, the SC250’s tires look too thin and the atom has the aluminum exoskeleton down its bodywork. But regardless of the appearance, the £29,495 is only slightly over the base price of an Atom, which means its still cheap, fast fun.
Looks like things aren’t tough everywhere for General Motors. GM’s Australian unit Holden has rolled its seven millionth car off the production line. The red Commodore sedan (cousin to the Pontiac G8) was revealed with a focus on green energy solutions and fuel efficiency, being fitted for dual fuel LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas — a sorta mixture of propane and butane.) It was rolled out amid a crowd of workers, executives and government officials.
Holden built Australia’s first mass produced car, the 48-215, in November 1948 at Fishermans Bend in Port Melbourne, Victoria. Its one millionth car rolled off the production line almost 14 years later in October 1962. The Commodore was launched in 1978 and has been Australia’s best selling car for the past 12 years.
Moscow can sometimes conjure up images of cold and snowy weather. So what better place for Lexus to introduce its newest all-wheel drive car. Next week, all the attention of the car fans will be on the Moscow International Auto Show, which will begin on August 26th. The latest manufacturer who announced the global debut of one of its cars is Lexus, who will launch its brand new LS460 AWD, a four-wheel-drive version of its well-known LS460.
The new vehicle will be powered by the same 4.6 liter V8 engine capable to deliver 380 hp but it will feature a new Torsen differential, which like the LS600h version, it distributes 60% of the power on the rear wheels while the other 40% is available on the front wheels. The car will be available from November, but no pricing has been confirmed.
